Using Hydrogen Peroxide & Baking Soda to Lighten Hair

Ladies, I'm sure you can identify with me here.  A major life event happens and you just need a NEW ME.  Most of 2019 was a struggle for me, especially after September & I took it out on my hair.  I was stressed out & I also was having a hard time finding a stylist in Hawaii that did blonde color well & didn't want to charge me an arm & a leg for it.  I've done the majority of my own color since I was 14 years old, including the beautiful plantinum blonde I got so many compliments on, so I decided to take matters into my own hands.

I don't think I've ever used an ampersand as many times as I have in that paragraph.

Anyhow, I got some level 3 demi hair tint & went dark.  I thought that because it was demi, it wasn't as much of a commitment.   Months went by and it didn't matter how many  washes, this color didn't want to budge.  I figured it was no big deal, it should be easy for a hair dresser to fix for me.

Then quarantine happened.  It is literally illegal for me to get my hair done in a salon right now.  I could just get one of my hair stylist friends to come over and help a girl out, but I respect my friends enough not to ask them to break the law for me.

Now I'm stuck with this. Eff.

I don't mind it really aesthetically, I've actually had a lot of compliments on the new dark color.  i got some new extensions, and BAM... who is she?  But I just don't feel like me.  I find myself looking at blonde girls everywhere I go and being like, "That was me..."  Some brunette girls are GORGEOUS, but it's just not me anymore.

My hairstylist friend recommended that I use baking soda in my shampoo until I can get in and get the color stripped professionally.  I began researching other ways to strip my hair at home and started coming across a bunch of youtube videos where women were using baking soda & hydrogen peroxide.

They were getting some great results, but there wasn't much as far as women getting brunette color out of their hair.  Sooo.... I figured I'd give it a shot.

It's pretty simple and only uses a few key ingredients.  If you use the links below to purchase products, I do receive a commission from Amazon.

You can watch the video to see specifics on how to use the lightening masque & see my results.  My roots were lightened a lot and it did strip some color out.  I think in the future I'll be just using some clarifying shampoo & baking soda in the shower.

I'll be posting more about my road back to blonde in the near future.  Make sure to subscribe to follow my journey.
